Hangzhou Bay Bridge

Hangzhou Bay Bridge is a long highway bridge with a cable-stayed portion across Hangzhou Bay within the Japanese coastal region of China. It connects the municipalities of Jiaxing and Ningbo in Zhejiang province. Hangzhou Bay Bridge is one in all the longest trans-oceanic bridges within the world. Its length is 35.673 km. Construction of the bridge was completed on June 14, 2007 and a gap ceremony was persisted June 26, 2007.The bridge shortened the highway travel distance between Ningbo and Shanghai from four hundred km (249 mi) to a pair of 80 km (174 mi) and reduced travel time from four to 2.5 hours.

The bridge across the Hangzhou Bay's final plans were approved in 2003.
Because of the numerous difficulties facing such an amazing build, nearly 600 consultants spent nearly a decade coming up with the bridge. however in the end this there still was lots of challenges. the primary being the challenge of offshore construction. As an answer, many components of the bridge had to be completed on land and then transported to the world that they were designed. Some elements that were created using this method were piers, box girders and even the bridge foundations.
Another construction challenge concerned the weather within the region. Wang Yong, chief director of the Hangzhou Bay Trans-Oceanic Bridge Construction Command Post, described the bridge as being designed "in the world's most intricate ocean setting, with one in all the 3 biggest tides on Earth, the impact of typhoons and therefore the tough content of the ocean soil." Erosion of materials and cracking and effervescent of any concrete elements became an outsized drawback.
The third major challenge faced by designers and engineers was a region of toxic methane gas that was discovered roughly fifty meters underground below the situation of the bridge. No drilling may well be completed before the gas pressure was alleviated. To do this, steel pipes measuring sixty cm in diameter were inserted into the bottom, slowly releasing the methane six months before drilling.

A  service center known as Land between the ocean and therefore the Sky, which is 10,000 sq. meter, contains a resting space, a restaurant, a gas station, a hotel, a conference space, and a lookout tower, that is a tourist attraction to observe the tide. The service center is made on an island.
The service center was slightly broken during a fireplace on the March twenty three, 2010 however opened to tourists on December nineteen, 2010.
